On May 13th, 2014 a fire broke out at a coal mine in Soma, Turkey and 301 miners died. 14 days before the accident Turkish Parliament, dominated by Erdogan's Party, rejected a proposal to investigate the safety concerns in Soma. Death toll was bigger because of safety violations. Too many wood supports were used instead of metal ones. Not enough carbon monoxide detectors were installed. There were no safety rooms for miners... and so on... Prime Minister Erdogan said: These kind of accidents happen all the time. They are in the nature of mining business. Here is the nature of the mining business: For fifty million tons of coal production in 2008 United States lost 1 miner and for the same amount Turkey lost 361 miners. When I punish you I will make it 361 times stronger my Dear Erdogan.
